Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer – OBDII/CAN

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer with expertise in developing firmware for On-Board Diagnostics II (OBDII) systems utilizing Controller Area Network (CAN) communication protocol. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience working with ARM Cortex-M micro-controllers and a proven track record of delivering robust, efficient, and reliable firmware solutions for automotive applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain embedded firmware for OBDII systems, focusing on CAN communication protocols and ARM Cortex-M micro-controllers.
  • Design and implement efficient algorithms for data processing, sensor interfacing, and diagnostic functions within the firmware.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, software developers, and quality assurance engineers to ensure seamless integration of firmware with hardware components.
  • Conduct thorough testing and debugging of firmware to ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications.
  • Optimize firmware performance for speed, memory usage, and power consumption to meet product requirements and specifications.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members to improve overall code quality and maintainability.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in embedded systems development to continuously enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering peers to foster their professional growth and development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in embedded firmware development with a focus on OBDII/CAN systems.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ for embedded systems.
  • Strong understanding of CAN communication protocols and experience with related.
  • Extensive experience with ARM Cortex-M micro-controllers and familiarity with ARM development tools and ecosystems.
  • Solid understanding of real-time operating systems (RTOS), device drivers, and low-level hardware/software interactions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues in embedded systems.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience with automotive industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 15765, SAE J2819) is a plus.

Electrical Process Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Transition new products from engineering to manufacturing environment.
  • Develop appropriate test methods, procedures, fixtures and test systems to ensure new products meet their performance requirements.
  • Design electrical/electronic circuits for manufacturing test equipment and fixtures.
  • Be responsible for the design, implementation and documentation of electrical/electronic fixtures and devices to aid with the manufacturing process.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and cross-functional teams in problem solving, investigations, etc.
  • Work with document control managing schematics, drawings, Bills of Material, Engineering Change Orders, etc.
  • Participate in lean manufacturing Kaizen events.
  • Identify, recommend and implement production process improvements.
  • Assist purchasing in specifying qualified electronic components.
  • Specify fixtures and perform programming for ICT of printed circuit board assemblies.
  • Write detailed test plans for new sensor/device qualification testing.

Qualifications

  • BSEE from a four year college or university. 
  • Candidate must be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment with purchasing, quality assurance, manufacturing and engineering personnel.
  • Communicate effectively in English, in both oral and written forms.
  • Must be knowledgeable in electrical and electronic engineering principles.
  • Must be able to use test equipment associated with the design and development of electronic systems.
  • Must be able to interpret and understand electronic component specifications.
  • Must possess excellent electronic circuit trouble shooting skills.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Familiar with schematic capture and PCB layout tools.
  • Must be a proven problem solver with technical decision making skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Strong background in surface mount and through-hole technology.
