DESCRIPTION:

Since 1957, AutoMeter has set the standard in performance, accuracy and durability with their legendary Tachometers. The absolute pinnacle of engineering and technology, it’s no wonder AutoMeter can lay claim to more motorsports victories than every other gauge manufacturer combined. The patented air core meter movement, wound in house to exacting standards, can move the needle from 0 – Maximum RPM in 333 milliseconds. An ultra-bright LED shift light guarantees you hit your shifts perfectly, every time. An inaugural inductee to the Hot Rod Speed Parts Hall of Fame, no other tachometer on the market has had anything approaching its impact on professional racing. Built for a lifetime of service under the harshest conditions, this is the no compromise tach for no compromise builds. When you’re ready for the best, there isn’t another choice.
Feature Points
  • Playback a complete run of engine RPM data at 1:1 or 1:3 speed
  • Compatible with 0.5 - 6 pulse ignition signals (1-12 cylinder engines) with points, electronic, and most 12V high-performance racing ignitions.
  • AutoMeter’s race proven air-core electric tachometers provide quick and accurate readings with a needle so responsive it can go from 0 - full scale in 333 milliseconds
  • 12 and 16 volt compatible, well-suited with nearly every street car or race car electrical system
  • Optional shift light connector allows for the addition of a variety of options from AutoMeter to improve driver visibility and reaction to desired gear change points.
  • Program up to 4 gear-specific shift light points to maximize your vehicle's performance. Built in short-shift protection prevents missed shifts due to early shifts by monitoring RPM drop and intelligently determining when a gear change has occurred.
  • Optional Launch Lite feature utilizes a Shift Lite connected to the tachometer to help the driver properly stage the vehicle and maintain desired RPM prior to launch in classes where launch control electronics are prohibited by utilizing the light to indicate whether you are at, above, or below your desired launch RPM.
  • Remote recording trigger lead may be connected to driver accessible push button, trans-brake, line-lock, clutch switch, or foot brake light switch for maximum versatility and ease of use for the driver.
  • Green LED recording status lamp provides quick visual indication of tachometer mode to the driver to ensure you never miss a recording.
  • Traditional incandescent lighting illuminates the front of the dial

I have a 3964 playback tach. How do I change the light bulb? I tried turning the square "knob" on the front, but I didn't want to break anything and it didn't turn readily.

Asked by: JimNC
On the face of the gauge, that small black rectangle is the socket for the lightbulb. It would be part 3219 and you would be able to twist it out of socket.

"Optional shift light connector allows for the addition of a variety of options from AutoMeter to improve driver visibility and reaction to desired gear change points." What is the P/N for the optional connector? Thanks.

Asked by: Dart
Hi There, this tach will be able to work with shift lights like the 5330.

With a msd 6al ignition will this tach require a msd tach adapter or will it wire straight to the gray tach output with on the msd box. I’m trying to find a 3 3/8” or 5” tach that doesn’t need an adapter. Rec. For a simple good quality tach?

Asked by: Derek70
Any of our tachometers will work with a 6AL box. You will not need any tach adapter when connecting to one.

Can tach be mounted in dash if so hole size and does it have retainer bracket to hold in dash

Asked by: Bullet188
Thank you for your question. It is not designed to be mounted in dash. It has a step-down casing that will fit in a 3-3/8" hole, or it can be mounted flush to the dash in a 4-5/8" hole. Either way, we do not make a bracket to accommodate this so you would have to provide your own way to hold it in dash.

tach # 3964........if the driver screws up and does not record the run and has two different shift points saved for 1-2 and 3-4 in the tach memory..........will either shift point be operating and if so which one will show ????????????????????

Asked by: HeavyDstickman
Hi there, thank you for reaching out. If the Sport Comp Playback is not in record mode it will function like a standard shift light tachometer and will use only the first shift set point.
