REVIEWS:

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wrong decision I purchased this for my build many months ago to use along size my OEM coolant temp gauge. My vehicle runs hots due to it being a rotary and this was means of keeping a better eye on the engine temps. Opened up the gauge and the face had scratches on it like it was a used gauge. Nice. Got in contact with the returns department to exchange it and they agreed. I never got anything and my emails were left unanswered. Nice. Okay I’ll just run the gauge then whatever. I try to install the sender unit which is advertised as a 1/8npt fitting. Doesn’t fit into my oem coolant temp sender location. Okay weird. My coolant temp sender is a female 1/8 npt. Well I’ll just add this to my Koyo rad that comes with a 1/8 npt fitting. Does fit. Nice. I’ll try this aftermarket elbow that also has a 1/8 npt female fitting. Doesn’t fit either, nice. Maybe I can make it work using one of there adapters. Oh wait it doesn’t fit in there either. Nice. This happened to me with a coolant temp sender unit and oil temp sender unit. Biggest waste of money on my build. The only reason I’m going to use these gauges are because I’m not gonna spend another couple hundred dollars for better gauges.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from They can't figure out 1/8 NPT 27 vs 1/8 NPT 28 I purchased this kit and the sensor barely went in 1 turn and bound up on the fittings it comes with; I tried different fittings as well to no avail. I then took out my tap and die set which has both 1/8NPT27 and 1/8NPT28 taps and dies. The sensor is cut to 1/8NPT27 and most fittings including the ones that come in the kit are commonly in 1/8NPT28. Once realizing this I called AutoMeter and was told they've been doing this for 40years and never had anyone complain about this and that even though they are different threads it works fine. My concern is that you are essentially cross threading a soft material (brass) and potentially making the sensor useless to reuse or relocate since the threads are now damaged from being forced into improper threads. To AutoMeter if you read this I encourage you to change you sensor thread cutting process to match the more commonly used 1/8NPT28 size and get better employees in your customer support/service department that will try to help instead of tell them off.

QUESTIONS:

I have a 89 f150 4.9l. I plan to replace the engine coolant temp sensor. That sensor is just above the starter at the rear of the block. The port is about a 5/8 port. Do you guys sell a port fitting that will work for digital gauge?

Asked by: RobB85
Hello RobB85, thank you for your question. Unfortunately, we don't have anything.

How long is the wiring harness can the wire from gauge to sender have to be a defined length ?

Asked by: Sspdiesel
Thank you for your question. The wiring harness is 8ft, you can certainly cut and splice in more wiring if you need to add more. There is not a specific length of wire it needs to be.

Does this gauge provide the ability to program an audible warning? I'm interested in finding a gauge with that capability!

Asked by: Ruggedly
Thank you for your question. None of our gauges have a speaker or a function to produce their own audible warning. However, any of our gauges that have the pro-Control output system, such as the Elite series gauges, can be connected to some type of buzzer or warning horn and they will produce a programmable output to trigger that device.

Can you get these in different colors are do they just come in the blue

Asked by: Mike 66
Thank you for your question. The Cobalt digital gauges are only available in blue. We also have the Sport-Comp Digital and Ultra-Lite digital series available that are very similar to the Cobalt Digital series, but are different colors.

Do you offer a longer prob / sender that will sit further onto the coolant?

Asked by: Chris J
Hi Chris, thank you so much for contacting us. We do not offer a different temperature sensor for this gauge. With that said, based on the way that the sender measures, there is no more than an academic difference in readings between direct coolant submersion and offset. In testing with NASCAR the variance we saw could just as easily have been a rounding error. This isn't the cases with an old school mechanical temperature gauge, but holds true on the electronic ones. Hope this helps!

Can this temp gauge be wired to a positive ground vehicle?

Asked by: Robert A.
Hi Robert, thank you so much for contacting us. Like all AutoMeter gauges, this product can only be used in 12v or 15v, negative ground applications. Sorry for the bad news.
